Thomas Attwood was born in Halesowen in 1783
and is remembered for his political activity and his banking. He
founded the Birmingham Political Union that pressed for currency and
parliamentary reform. He withdrew from public life after the Chartists
riots. The bronze statue is by Sioban Coppinger and Fiona Peever (1993).
There is another statue to Attwood in Sparkbrook.
